Humanitarian Cruise with Best-Selling Author Jacquelyn Mitchard

Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, daughter of His Royal Highness Prince Albert of Monaco, selects Tui Tai for her South Pacific expedition

Jazmin Grace recently spent a week aboard Tui Tai, visiting outer islands on a humanitarian tour of Fiji. She provided a new rooftop water-collection system for the tiny village of Yanuca that has suffered a water shortage. She also donated 30,000 pre-natal vitamins to Savusavu Hospital, and provided classroom chairs for the Rabi Primary School (where students had been sitting on the floor).

The people of Rabi Island gave an official greeting ceremony to Jazmin Grace.

At the tiny village of Togo on Qamea Island, Jazmin Grace’s tour took a surprising turn when she learned of two young girls who both needed medical check-ups, one for persistent migraine headaches and the other for a respiratory problem. Tui Tai agreed to transport the girls to the nearest island with a proper hospital. The chief and the girls’ families gave their approval.

Every cabin on the Tui Tai was full of holidaying passengers, so Jazmin Grace had the two unexpected guests bunk in her Grand Stateroom.

Before Tui Tai sailed, Togo village offered a special farewell ceremony for its two young citizens: traditional songs and dances performed by the girls’ friends, right on the roof of the ship.

Born and raised in a village without electricity or cars or media, the two girls embarked on the adventure of a lifetime, having never before been on a ship, never had a hot shower, never experienced air conditioning or chilled foods – and of course, never having met the daughter of a Head of State, let alone bunked with one.

The two young villagers received medical exams and treatment at Savusavu’s Private Clinic, and the Tui Tai took them back to Togo Village, with medical supplies, and a lot of stories to tell.
